The inking is a bit rusty, I know. It's been awhile since I've brush inked and it kind of shows. But for the purposes of the cover and the kind of colors going on this, this will work fine. It was nice getting to ink something again even if I had to train a new brush to do it.
I agree, I just got used to using pens from my blog and how much faster it goes. But the brush is typically a better look for my figure lines. I was just noticing how rusty I was in the (in)delicate feather lines pulling out from the blacks. I also forgot to go back in with white out and pop out some elements before I scanned it.
Ha! You're too much of a perfectionist I use brush almost exclusively on my figures (desperately trying to lose some of my stiffness) and I find now that I'm used to it (or, getting there), it goes really really fast.
yeah if I could loosen up, I could do that looser style that's becoming so popular and ink myself on a regular deadline. For whatever reason, I just always feel like it never looks finished. maybe someday I'll work it out.
Have you tried doing stuff digitally? Dave Marquez is all digital and has a very tight style like yours. He says digital is the only way he can nail a monthly book with both pencils and inks.
