Snake Eyes 1 page 1 by RobertAtkins Snake Eyes 1 page 1 by RobertAtkins
Page 1 of Snake Eyes #1 that came out today (May 18th) this issue was a blast to work on. I cant say enough good things about the guys Im working with on this. Juan Castro (inker) and Simon Gough (colorist) they really made each step of the process better and better.

Im excited to show what Ive been working on these past few months.

I'd love to see your studio. If you felt comfortable with it. Or your workspace drawing those G.I. Joe pics.

I've changed things around a little since this. More junk on the shelves and such. But you can get the idea.

He wears a mask and you have still given his face a worried expression! The top of his visor is kinda mimicking the way eyebrows go upwards in the center of a face, to make a worried look. That's just what I'm seein anyways.
The way his feet are kicking and seem to be losing their grip on the cliff face (even w/ those climbing...um, shoes?) adds to the "worry" feel. And anyone who knows Snake Eyes knows that this guy isn't worried by anything!...right?!
There's all kinda great tension in this piece! That's what keeps you on the edge of your seat and want to read the comic, right?

ahh, Im glad you read that. Its by far the biggest challenge to give emotion and visual pathos to a character that doesnt talk, you cant see his face and he's too cool to act visually dramatic.

I took a Fictional Literature Criticism class lately, and I think a lot of the New Criticism concepts carry over to art. It's all about tension, opposition, contrast (not just visual, conceptual, too), stuff like that. That stuff keeps the audience on the edge of their seat. I think you've got all that goin on here, that's what makes it such a great page! Keep up the awesome work, I'm picking this up when I get back home (no shops around here).

Haha, maybe, maybe... each stage of these pages looks super to me. Pencillers like colourists and inkers work, colourists like the work of Pencillers and Inkers (where would I be without em!!)... Inkers just love themselves haha :P

the pouches on his upper arms look ridonkulously small and flat....maybe that's where ninja/commandos store sticks of gum for combat ready breath, who knows. whatever, this is by far one of the most dynamic SE pic's in all and forvever. seriously man, you are a true master of your craft, i request the highest of fives. oh, and thanks for somehow keeping SE fresh and awesome.

lol, yeah those aren't patches. Im planning on using those as a little flash bang cartridges. They dont hold anything, he has plenty of other pouches for that stuff.

thanks for the kind words!

Would it be alright if I took a crack at inking these 3 Snake Eyes pages you've posted? Just for practice of course. I'll credit you and send you a link when I'm finished with them.
