Snake Eyes 1 page 2-3 by RobertAtkins Snake Eyes 1 page 2-3 by RobertAtkins
Pages 2 and 3 for issue #1 of Snake Eyes from IDW. A lot of things clicked for me on this issue, I hope it shows in the book.

This is the reason why not just anyone can draw comics, I mean REALLY GOOD comics. AMAZING rendering and not just a slurry of random lines.

That meta-panel is brilliant, man. Great composition! I wish the rope that Snake Eyes is holding and carabined to showed that he's weighing 'it down... even tightly woven to the pitons, it ought to have some pull at his contact points... as it is, it feels like he's holding a bar of metal rather than a rope.

But that's really just a nitpick 'cause that drawing is so pretty and I'm crazy jealous. Nice job, man!

:D

yeah, thats a really good point. A rope would never be that taught no matter how tight you had it fastened down. Always room to improve!

I liked his climbing boot clips all spikey and dangerously near Alpine's face. SE makes pretty good use of those spikey feet kicking the crap out of Cobra goons next issue. Cool stuff

Wasn't this two separate pages at first? Did you combine them into a DPS? Works well. Great job.

yeah there was a bit of a mix up with script and stuff. We got it worked out and it resulted in combining pages 2-4 into 1 double page spread. Needless to say, interesting problems solving when on that week.

Ha! I bet. Well, it worked out well. I think it works better this way. Great establishing and no more tricky "swinging" page. Nice job.

The dynamic perspective of this page is very exciting! You did a fantastic job of not simply showing them climbing up (or down) a mountain!

Thanks, I have to say too that Chuck's script suggested through the dialogue that it should be indirect. I tried to capture that visually.

I dont do a lot of climbing, I've done a little. but researching out the high altitude climbers I was surprised at the amount of gear they carry with them. I wanted to try and keep that authentic. It does take a while to draw all that crap though. heh.

These took roughly 8-10 hours a page, generally I do a page a day though. the mountains went very quick.
