Snake Eyes Cover 6 by RobertAtkins Snake Eyes Cover 6 by RobertAtkins
Snake Eyes cover for issue #6 that just came out. I was just going for iconic shots of Snake Eyes for this group of covers. Nothing fancy, but fun to do and cool to see. Also these last two covers in particular spotlight the knife that I drew Snake Eyes with in the first 4 issues. It's called a Cuma Tak Ri, and is designed by Waysun Johnny Tsai, a good friend and Martial Arts master up in Chicago.

These knives just went on the market and you can get one yourself at the topsknives website!

Also I want to mention that this pose is loosely based on a classic Captain America pose I remember from when Ron Garney was drawing Cap. I don't even know if I have this issue still? Im sure its been done in a hundred other comics or covers, but that one pose is what gave me the idea for the cover. I loved Garney's run on Cap. Still one of the best imo.

Do you have a preferred version of ol Snake Eyes that you like to draw or have not had an opportunity to yet. Any chance we could see you draw his original outfit with the goggles rather than the well known (standard) one with the visor that we see here?!!

for the cover to issue #7 I think I have him split down the middle half with the goggles half with the visor. I will post that soon, it doesnt look as weird as that sounds, heh

the great thing about a ninja is that you must really have fun drawing all those weaons. I mean seriously you can put almost anything in their hands. Did you actually do a little research here? As someone that practices traditional Ninjutsu that looks almost like an authentic Kunai in his left hand!

that knife is actually a Cuma Tak Ri, a combat knife that I own based on the Kunai.

Great illo man, great way of solving that pose and perspective. It looks better than Garney's , and I love his work, so that's saying a lot :)

Also reminds me of an old Jim Lee pic of Cap. Very cool! I saw this issue at the store but since I don't have the prior issues I had to pass on it. Hopefully there will be a TPB for it!

Snake Eyes vs Batman, who wins?

Thats tough man. I would say Snake Eyes is willing to kill a dude, so ultimately he could win. But if you take that off the table, Batman wins hands down. He's just too resourceful.

This is true. I'd take time and prep off the table because Snake Eyes can adapt to nearly anything you could throw at him.

I have that Comic. I think it was actually a Jim Lee pic from a story about Cap and Logans first encounter back in the 40's. Garney was the Captain America artist at the time I think. Here's a link to that pic. [link]

Lol anyway, nice pic.

yeah, I figured either Lee coped him or he coped Lee, either way, definitely an iconic pose.

Im working on a Dynamic Figure drawing tutorial. Considering that used to be the weakest aspect of my work, I want to show how I got past that and really examine it. It's taking me a while to put together though.

oh man that sounds awesome. Are you going to charge for it? Can I get a copy of it?

Man you can't tell me something like this and not come to Gigacon. This information is exactly what my students need. You are killing me here.

This next year Im expanding classes to do an advanced comic art class, Character design, and Figure drawing for comics 1 and 2. Busy busy!
