I left a comment on :iconspidermanfan2099:'s colored version of this, and wanted to drop by and give props to the guy who drew the original artwork! This brought back a lot of fond memories, and all I can say is amazing job!

I really like the blur on the tentacles. It really feels like they are coming at you really fast!

That was a new technique Im trying, it works sometimes. The perspective in the image helped sell it too I think.

Gosh. Your art is so neat! I would love to be able to produce works that are as good as yours. If you wouldn't mind, would you tell me a little about how you learned to do art like this? I'd like to do comics, but my college art class right now isn't exactly helping.

I actually went to school and learned alot from life drawing and my professors. That helped me build my foundation. Since school, its been a matter of drawing every day and trying to improve and learn something new with each project. I have many artists I look to as influence and see what they do well. I try to deconstruct it and apply certain parts to my own work when it fits or solves a problem I have in my own work. Mostly its just time and gleaning as much info as you can from professors and other professionals.

You cant go wrong with basic anatomy studies, in class or on your own with books. And you can never draw enough backgrounds and environments. you need that to get work professionally after school. Dont take for granted even the most minimal class you have, a 2D design course taught be basic fundementals about composition that I use every day. So even if it seems like the class doesnt have much to offer, It's probably making more of an impact than you realize. And even then, its up to you to make the class worth it. You cant sit back and hope you become an amazing artist because you have a degree. you need to push yourself, do more than what's required and talk to your professors outside of class to get personal critiques of your work and even extra assignments if it will make you a better artist.

Thats what I did at any rate, and it helped a ton. I fealt like I got my money's worth out of school, but its because I had the ambition to get that worth out of it.

Thank you for the advice. I have asked other artists on DA before who haven't replied to me, so thank you for the time and consideration. I will try my best to follow that advice.
